SHEFFIELD’S Jamie Vardy could be on the verge of a move to Championship team Leicester City after guiding Fleetwood Town into the Football League.
The 24-year-old striker has worked his way through the leagues after first coming to prominence with Stocksbridge Park Steels. He swiftly moved from the Steels’ reserve team in the County Senior League into the Evo-Stik League with the first team.
After scoring 66 goals in 107 appearances for Stocksbridge he was signed by Halifax Town for £15,000 and helped them win promotion to the Blue Square Bet North.
Steels coffers were boosted by a sell on clause on that deal as his form during the one season he spent with the Shaymen saw the ambitious Fleetwood sign him for a figure believed to be between £100,000 and £150,000.
Vardy scored 31 goals as Fleetwood stormed to the Blue Square Bet Premier title.
If Vardy does complete a move to the East Midlands the fee could rise to close to £1m and complete a meteroic rise.
