Those wins lifted both teams above Stevenage, who were held to a goalless draw against Walsall, while David Amoo earned Bury a 1-0 win over Preston to keep them in the picture.
At the bottom, Yeovil moved three points clear of the bottom pair with a 1-0 win at Hartlepool thanks to Bondz N’Gala’s first-half goal.
Scot Bennett, Danny Coles and Richard Logan earned Exeter a 3-0 win over Tranmere, while Bournemouth and Oldham drew 0-0.
