Woods wins pain game
DONCASTER Rovers midfielder Martin Woods was in pain for much of last season due to a groin problem.
Following a successful operation, the former Scottish Under-21 international is now proving a pain for the club's Championship rivals.
Woods set Rovers on their way to a 3-1 win over Hull City at the weekend with a second-minute header.
Woods, who won the sponsors' man-of-the-match award, also had a hand in the other two Doncaster goals.
"I like scoring goals and I think it is something that I can contribute to the team and also set goals up as I did on Saturday," said Woods.
"When you do score goals your performance tends to get highlighted, but I'm more concerned about the team doing well and doing my job.
"It was nice to get a goal, and get off the mark for the season, and win the man-of-the-match award, but I've been happy with my performances in all the games so far.
"I know that we got beat 4-0 at Cardiff the week before, but I thought that we played well in the first half and for 15 minutes in the second half but things didn't happen for us after that and some bad defending throughout the team let us down a bit.
"We knew that the last 30 minutes wasn't the real Doncaster Rovers and we were determined to put it right on Saturday.
"We also knew that we'd not played to our full potential in the second half of any of the other games we'd played this season, so we wanted to try and do that which I thought that we did on Saturday.
"They had a decent spell at the start of the second half but you aren't always going to be able to control a game for the full 90 minutes - but I thought that we defended well
"We then scored another goal and created a lot of chances and that will give us a lot of confidence going into the Watford game on Saturday week.
"Sometimes it is good to keep the momentum going after a win, but if we rest up a bit this week and then prepare right next week I think that it is a game that we can go there and get a win.
"They are a decent team - though they lost at home to Leeds at the weekend - but I think that we can beat anybody if we play to our potential so we'll be going there looking for a win.
"We've equalled our best start to a Championship season and a result at Watford will mean it is our best start.
"We feel that we are improving every year and apart from the Cardiff game I feel that we have been consistent.
"We all know our roles and our jobs and hopefully that will stand us in good stead.
"It was good to see John Oster back on Saturday. He's a player who you can bounce the ball off and you know he'll take care of the ball.
"To say it was his first game back (after a knee operation) he didn't look out of place. He's naturally fit but he can be fitter and he knows that.
"He'll be able to work on his fitness during the international break and I'm sure he'll be a massive asset for the rest of the season."
