Shelts happy return bid

DONCASTER Rovers defender Shelton Martis has painful memories of his last visit to Vicarage Road.

The big centre-back tore his hamstring playing for Rovers whilst on loan from West Bromwich Albion in the first half of the 2008-09 season.

The injury sidelined Martis for the rest of the year and dashed Rovers' hopes of extending his loan period.

Reflecting on the game, which saw striker Steve Brooker make his debut in a Rovers' shirt, Martis said:" I remember it well; it was my birthday.

Martis made a full recovery and went on to regain his place in the Baggies side in the second half of their Premier Division campaign.

But, like a lot of other sportsman who have had a similar injury, he does specific exercises to keep the muscle supple. Martis missed the trip to Cardiff after being substituted in the home draw against Bristol due to his hamstring tightening up, but insists it is not a major problem.

"I know what I need to do and the physios and the fitness and conditioning coach keep an eye on me and make sure that I do the right things," he said.

Despite what happened last time, Martis says he is looking forward to taking on the Hornets again on Saturday week in the club's next game.

"It's a tough place to go but we'll be refreshed after the International break and we'll be well prepared," he said.

"We've made a good start and because most of the players have been here a couple of years they know what is expected of us.

"Everyone knows their job and understands what we are trying to do as a team.

"Hopefully we can go down there and pick up another win."
