STAR striker Billy Sharp is on the verge of leaving Doncaster Rovers and joining Championship high fliers Southampton.

Rovers manager Dean Saunders has today confirmed the club have accepted a bid from the Saints and Sharp is set to have a medical at St Mary’s this afternoon.

Indeed, Saints boss Nigel Adkins tried to sign the talismanic forward, who has notched 10 goals in 20 Championship appearances this season, in the summer but the deal fell through. Adkins has previously worked with Sharp at Scunthorpe United.

Former Sheffield United ace Sharp turned down a move to Leicester City earlier in the transfer window after the Foxes had activated a release clause in his contract.
