Premier link boosts stock

DONCASTER Rovers skipper Brian Stock has admitted he is flattered by interest from Premier League clubs.

The likes of Birmingham, Wigan and newly-relegated West Brom have all been linked with the classy midfielder since the end of the season.

"Like any player, it gives your confidence a boost to be linked with other clubs and I'm delighted to have had as much publicity as I've had through transfer news," said Stock.

"If anything comes along then I would look at it, but I'm enjoying myself here. As far as I am concerned, I am a Doncaster Rovers player and my main objective is to get myself fit for the start of the season.

"I played the whole of last season injured. I started with my back problem on the first day of the season at Derby.

"I felt a twinge in the warm-up and I had an injection and I had the problem all season until I had the operation in the closing weeks.

"I tried to play through the pain barrier. Long journeys didn't help and sometimes I'd get off the coach and I'd be walking like an old man. I'm hoping that the operation has cleared the problem and that I will have an injury-free run next season."

Stock was one of the players who reported back last week for three days of training.

"We didn't do a lot of serious work," he said. "It was just a case of getting tested, blowing the cobwebs away and doing some light running and a bit of work with the ball. I did more or less what everyone else did.

"I'll have another family holiday and a bit more of a break and then do a bit more work ahead of the start of pre-season next month. There might be one or two things that I possibly won't do when we first start back, But I don't want to be playing catch-up with the rest of the lads."

Stock has had no problem with interrupting his summer break to spend three days' training.

"I think it's a good idea to bring us back in for a few days," he said. "We've done it before."
