DONCASTER Rovers’ midfielder Paul Keegan admits it’s been the most frustrating of his career so far, but the former Drogheda United and Bohemians star hopes to be fit enough to be pressing for a place in Dean Saunders’ side late next month.

Dubliner Keegan, who joined Doncaster from Bohs 12 months ago, has managed just two appearances for the Keepmoat Stadium club this season due to injury.

He’s been a frustrated spectator as the side have languished in the Championship’s relegation zone.

Despite the recent signing of ex-Liverpool man Damien Plessis, and the return to fitness of such as John Oster and Martin Woods, Keegan still hopes he can work his way back into the side.

“It’s been a complete nightmare,” says Keegan, who hasn’t played for Rovers since August due to knee and quad injuries.

“But there is light at the end of the tunnel now. I’m back running and could be back playing in two or three weeks.

“I just want to get playing again. The new manager hasn’t seen me play yet so I have a lot to prove to him, but he has been supportive and given me encouragement.

“We need all the players we can get so we can move up the table and stay in the division.

The Irishman is out of contract at the end of the season, but says: “I have to get back fit and get into the team before I can start worrying about a new contract.”
