Doncaster Rovers’ players will be summoned for an inquest into the club’s relegation this week.

However, boss Paul Dickov is unlikely to dwell too much on the past - as he quickly turns his attention to the big job awaiting him this summer.

Dickov, his staff and squad are due to meet up for one final time before they go their separate ways for the off season.

More than half of those players may not return to Doncaster, with no fewer than 16 players out of contract.

Dickov was reluctant to talk about the reasons behind Doncaster’s downfall immediately after watching his side slip through the Championship trap door at Leicester.

But he will speak to his squad collectively and individually this week as he tentatively lays the first building blocks ahead of the club’s return to League One.

Speaking straight after Saturday’s defeat at Leicester, Dickov said: “I told the players in the dressing room after the game, now is not the time to reflect when emotions are running high.

“We’ll get the boys in this week, sit down as a group and individually and look at the best way to go forward.”

Ross Turnbull, David Cotterill, James Coppinger and Paul Keegan are among the players about to become free agents.

Dickov’s playing budget is likely to be slashed too, as the club seek to compensate for an estimated £6 million loss in revenue that relegation will bring.

Dickov, meanwhile, admitted his side’s performance in their 1-0 defeat at Leicester summed up their inconsistent season - a decent effort but ultimately just not good enough.

“It wasn’t about Birmingham equalising in the last minute,” said Dickov.

“It’s about what you do over the course of the season and we’ve shown we just weren’t quite good enough.

“The game maybe summed up our season.

“We did well in parts.

“We defended well in parts.

“We broke well in parts.

“But in other parts we were quite poor.

“Over the course of the season that probably sums up the inconsistency that we’ve had.”
