FORMER Premiership stars Pascal Chimbonda and Herita Ilunga headed a Doncaster Rovers’ delegation to Mexborough’s Windhill Primary School on Wednesday afternoon.
The two defenders were joined by young midfielder James Baxendale who stepped in at short notice when Kyle Bennett pulled out of the visit after feeling unwell.
Football In the Community manager Liam Scully introduced the players before the youngsters got the chance to quiz them on a range of topics including the best goal they had scored, career highlights, favourite players and how they became footballers. The youngsters were all given a complimentary ticket for a forthcoming game at the Keepmoat and had their photograph taken with the players.
“The children had all been looking forward to Rovers’ visit,” said deputy head Tom Purdy.
“Hopefully the players’ visit will inspire anyone who is good enough to try and emulate them in the future.”
Rovers were due to visit Copley Junior School in Sprotbrough this afternoon.
