Doncaster Rovers saw their four-match unbeaten run come to an end at Turf Moor tonight.

The size of their task facing Rovers was reflected in these statistics: pre-match Burnley were the only team in the Championship unbeaten at home; Rovers boasted a single victory on their travels.

Manager Paul Dickov had outlined the challenge: “We need to address the away form but who better to do it against than the best home side?

“In this division you never know.”

Brown was off target with a header from a Duffy cross midway through the first half.

Vokes was wide with a header shortly before half-time with neither side so far able to break the deadlock.

Meite was shown the yellow card for a foul before Vokes tried his luck with a shot from outside the area that ended wide.

But Rovers went behind early in the second half. Wellens conceded a penalty with a foul and Vokes converted the resulting spot kick, firing into the top right corner.

Sharp saw his shot blocked as Rovers responded.

Stanislas threatened with a shot for the home side then Sharp won a free kick for Rovers and took the free kick but shot too high.

Duffy was booked for a foul on 69 minutes and was then replaced by Robinson.

Barnes had a shot saved before Cotterill’s long range effort ended wide.

Burnley went two ahead after 75 minutes with Stanislas, linking up with Jones, and firing home.

With eight minutes left Rovers made another substitution with Furman on for Keegan.

Dickov named the same starting 11 for the fourth consecutive game. James Coppinger kept his spot as a makeshift right back after a string of impressive performances while on-loan Manchester United keeper Sam Johnstone was again preferred to Ross Turnbull, who continues a steady return from injury.

Dickov’s Clarets counterpart Sean Dyche also stuck rather than twisting, naming the same team that won 3-0 at Charlton on Saturday. Former Rovers loanee Jason Shackell took his place in the Burnley back four.
