After the fantastic performance at QPR on New Year’s Day, Rovers fans must have thought that an FA Cup tie against League One basement team Stevenage would be a stroll in the park.
But how wrong could we be?
Boro deserved to win the game. They had more passion and desire. To be honest, our players were spineless in their performance. Add the Ipswich and Millwall games into that, is it any wonder the fans have not been very happy?
To me, the FA Cup is the premier cup to play in and can be a good money-spinner.
You could say that we had no Richie Wellens, Federico Macheda and Theo Robinson from New Year’s Day, but we should have still won the tie.
The only positives were that Harry Forrester and Liam Wakefield scored their first goals for the club.
But where has our passion and desire gone? Are the off-field problems having a knock-on effect? Is the injury crisis catching up with us?
At the end of the day these are well-paid professional players being cheered on by fans who do whatever they can to follow their team. We expect more desire to win a game and for more effort.
But anyway, it’s back to the league on Saturday and a much-awaited match against Blackburn.
We seem to have players returning from injury who played in the midweek friendly victory over York City. So let’s hope we can do the double over them, after a great 2-0 victory at the ‘Moat back in August.
Good news to come out of the club was Wellens signing an 18-month contract.
I hope we can attract a few more players to come and fight for our Championship survival.
Not so good were the reports in the media about the club going into administration, let’s hope not. This makes it all the more worthwhile for fans to attend the ‘meet the owners’ night on Monday, January 27. The event is free, but get tickets from the ticket office.
Finally, why - in these hard times - are we changing kits again for next season?
