DONCASTER Rovers safely reached the FA Cup second round when overcoming a spirited challenge by non-League Bradford PA.

Midfielder Keegan fired over with a 25-yard free-kickafter six minutes.

Walker won the visitors a 16th minute corner with an angled shot after Rovers had been guilty of playing the ball along their backline too much.

Bradford striker James was sent from the field by the referee to receive treatment for a cut head before being allowed to return.

Former Rovers junior O’Brien shot wide of the far post from just outside the box.

Rovers striker Paynter had a 24th minute shot deflected for a corner.

Big winger Walker tried his luck with a long-range shot two minutes later but Rovers keeper Woods had it covered all the way.

Rovers broke the deadlock a minute later when WOODS celebrated his return to the side after a back problem, beating keeper Deasy from the edge of the area following good work by Keegan and Hume in the build-up.

The Conference North side pushed forward again only to see a promising move fizzle out when Walker hit the side netting with an angled shot.

Woods tried his luck with a 30-yarder which just zipped past the right-hand post.

Rovers doubled their lead on 36 minutes, HUME poking the ball past the Bradford keeper from close range after getting on the end of Paynter’s low ball into the box.

Bradford left-back Drury was booked for a 40th minute foul on Syers.

Rovers put on veteran striker Blakefor Syers.

Jones and Bradford centre-back Hotte were lectured by the referee on the stroke of half-time.

Rovers full-back Griffin was booked for a foul on Drury with Hotte also being shown the yellow card.

The visitors were the first to threaten after the break and it took a good save by Woods to keep out a 25-yarder by Marshall at the expense of a 48 minute corner.

Woods forced a good save from Deasy at the other end on 52 minutes with a fierce angled shot.

Bradford brought on leading scorer Holland for O’Brien two minutes later.

The visitors pulled a goal back with a superb curling 25-yard effort from MARSHALL on 56 minutes.

Brown fired just wide of the right-hand post with a glancing header from Keegan’s 66 minute free-kick.

Hume, fed by Griffin, shot high from around 25 yards on 69 minutes.

Bradford made a second change seconds later - Greaves coming on for James.

Rovers were beginning to look a little ragged at the back and Greaves shot high and wide of the near post with an angled shot from around 12 yards out.

Bradford skipper Knowles did well to beat BROWN to Blake’s teasing left-wing cross in front of goal.

But the big striker wasn’t to be denied however, and he headed home in powerful fashion from Keegan’s 76th minute corner to make it 3-1.

Blake shot just wide of the left-hand post from 20 yards following some good link-up play in the build-up by Brown.

The visitors made a third change on 83 minutes with Higginson replacing Deacey, who had taken a knock a couple of minutes earlier.
