Breaking into the senior set-up is one of the most difficult battles a young footballer will have to make in his career.
The difficulty only increases for goalkeepers and even more so for young stoppers at the country’s biggest teams.
It is a battle currently faced by Sam Johnstone, who finds himself on a month-long loan with Rovers, looking to impress the powers-that-be at Manchester United.
Just days prior to his switch to the Keepmoat, the 20-year-old received a major boost to his hopes of making it at Old Trafford when he was handed a new five year contract.
He has since produced two strong performances for Rovers, demonstrating composure beyond his tender years.
So when he says he has had a good month, there is no reason to doubt it.
“I’m just delighted to be out playing,” Johnstone told the Green’Un.
