Martin Woods looks set to be a surprise name on the Doncaster teamsheet at Charlton tonight.
The 27-year-old midfielder - released by Rovers in the summer - announced his return to the club on a social media site yesterday.
Woods, himself blighted by injury problems during the latter part of his six years at Doncaster, has been training with Rovers after failing to find a new club.
The Scot could now find himself thrown in at the deep end at The Valley with boss Paul Dickov facing a selection headache in midfield. Mark De Val Fernandez remains short of match fitness, while Paul Keegan (hamstring) and Dean Furman (suspended) are both ruled out.
Rovers were expected to officially confirm Woods’ arrival on a short term contract until January today.
Meanwhile, Dickov gave a vote of confidence to his own younger players ahead of Thursday’s loan deadline, although he remains on the look-out for cover.
“We don’t want to just get players in for the sake of it,” he said.
“There’s a load of 18 and 19 year olds out there we could get, but the danger is you don’t know what you’re getting.
“And we’ve got 18 and 19 year olds of our own here. We saw that with Evan Finnegan being on the bench against Yeovil.
“The lads in the team are doing well but we need to get a bit of cover in,” he added.
