Doncaster Rovers are up for the cups, according to Paul Keegan.

And the Dubliner says victory at Oldham today in the FA Cup second round could ignite Rovers and their season.

“It can bring a club to life if you go on a good cup run,” said Keegan.

“Oldham are a good team and they’re playing well at the moment, so we’re in for a tough game.

“But everyone’s up for it and everyone knows the importance of doing well in the cup.

“Every competition you play in, you want to win. The FA Cup is no different.

“Weston-super-Mare was a game that could have gone wrong but I think we went down there and did a good job. We showed down there that we mean business in the cups.”

He added: “It’s the beauty of the FA Cup that there’s a chance of playing anybody in the next round.

“There’s that chance of coming up against a Premier League team and testing yourself against the best.

“Even in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy the manager turned round and said to us ‘this is the quickest way to Wembley’. We want to get there.”

Discussing Rovers’ recent performances, Keegan said: “We’re doing okay at the moment. I don’t think anyone’s getting carried away.

“We’d prefer to be winning games rather then drawing games.

“We’re playing some good stuff at times but lapses in concentration have caught us. We’ve been punished for those - and we’ve just got to cut those out.

“It’s just the little details that we need to sharpen up on, and we could be doing very well.

“I think everyone knows we’ve got to get those details right and we’ve got the basis of a very good squad here.”

Keegan, Nathan Tyson, James Coppinger and Enda Stevens are all injury doubts for today’s game.
