The on-loan Chelsea midfielder is confident Rovers can bounce back from their midweek defeat at Carlisle United against Luton Town at the Keepmoat Stadium today.

And he says the club’s unblemished home record this term is a big motivating factor as top of the table Rovers continue to seek an immediate return to League One.

“We’re aiming to be unbeaten at home for the whole season, that’s the aim,” said Houghton.

“We don’t want to lose another game. No one likes losing games.

“We know if we win every game we’re going to win the title.

“A good six or seven games could put us up. Our aim is to get over that line and into the top three, push away from that little group behind us and then focus on winning the title.”

Houghton was keen to keep Rovers’ three-game sequence without a win fully in perspective ahead of today’s game.

He said: “You can get caught up in it after losing a game and think all hell’s breaking loose!

“But we’re still doing really well and we’re in a great position.

“We could be 14 points clear of fourth place on Saturday night. We’re ticking games off at the moment and hopefully we’ll get to where we want to be come the end of the season.”

He added: “In three games we’ve drawn two and lost one and people expect us to win every game. As players we expect the same.

“So it’s disappointing to go in this little blip but hopefully we can put on a good performance on Saturday and get back to winning ways.

“It’s come at a time we can address it and really put it right.

“It’d be worse if we were coming into the last five or ten games and coming into a bad bit of form.

“The aim is to now kick on for the last little bit of the season and that could be pivotal. It’s a last little push now to get over the line.”
