John Ryan rarely holds back when it comes to his predictions for Doncaster Rovers’ prospects each season.
And the ambitious chairman has promised Rovers will make a splash in the Championship next term – both in the league table and the transfer market.
Ryan revealed new boss Paul Dickov put together an impressive list of viable transfer targets as part of a dossier he prepared for his application.
And he believes Rovers as a result will not be left concerned about Championship survival next term.
“Paul is very well connected,” Ryan said. “I know that because I’ve got connections with the Manchester clubs as well.
“I think fans will be very pleased with the quality of player he brings in, as well as the way he goes about his business.
“I’ve seen his list and there are some incredible names on there that would give us the chance to do exceptionally well if we add the right players to the really strong base we have to work from.
“Hopefully the bulk of last season’s squads will sign new contracts – they’ve done the job and deserve their chance.
“When we get our team together the fans are going to be impressed.
“We’re going to cause a few shocks next season, you watch.
“I don’t even think about finishing fourth bottom.
“The last time we came up from the Championship, although we were at the bottom for a time, we finished 12th.
“I think we have a chance of beating that this time around.
“I predict we’ll have a very good season.”
Dickov is expected to use his links with Manchester City to secure loan deals.
And the 40-year-old has also been tipped to raid former club Oldham for centre half Jean Yves M’Voto and midfielder Jose Baxter.
He is also expected to tie down former Latics loanee Dean Furman on a permanent deal.
But Dickov’s first course of action is likely to be discussing new deals with the nine out of contract players Rovers have initially opted to retain.
