Paul Dickov wants Rovers to get off the form rollercoaster to ensure a more gentle ride to Championship safety.

Dickov admitted his side has this season continually followed periods of good form with major slumps.

Arguably Rovers reached season’s deepest low to date on Saturday with the 5-0 mauling at Bournemouth.

In his longest post-game inquest of the campaign, Dickov told his side in no uncertain terms that there can be no more peaks and troughs over the remaining 13 games.

“There’s been a little pattern to our season where we’ve played three or four games when we’ve raised the standards and kept them high then all of a sudden have a big drop,” Dickov said.

“Whether that’s the mentality of the group or whether they think we’ve got to those standards and it’s too easy, I don’t know but we then drop below them.

“For the next 13 games our standards are going to have to be bang on.

“We need to get back to the standards we were at a few weeks ago.”

Unsurprisingly, Dickov is keen to move on as quickly as possible from Saturday’s horror show.

But he is demanding a response from his side in training this week.

He said: “We’ve got to move on now. We’ve got a big week in training and some big games to come.

“All of them are massive.

“We will get a response.”
