Tommy Spurr will today have a medical at Blackburn Rovers as a surprise departure from Doncaster nears.

The left back is among four remaining out of contract players at Rovers yet to have secured his future.

And Rovers now look set to miss out on the 25-year-old due after a protracted negotiation process which is understood to have been delayed due to on-going talks over a takeover of the club.

Blackburn have been on the hunt for a new left sided full back after selling Martin Olsson to Norwich for £2.5m earlier this summer.

Recent signing – former Doncaster loanee – Matt Kilgallon has played at left back during pre-season but is currently injured.

And it seems Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer has identified Spurr as the man to fill the role.

Spurr joined Rovers from Sheffield Wednesday two years ago for a fee believed to be in the region of £200,000.

He has made 73 appearances for the club.
