He feels he is making an impact on the team but Rob Jones is unwilling to say whether he thinks he has done enough to earn the manager’s job at Doncaster Rovers on a permanent basis.

The club’s owners will this week finalise the shortlist of candidates for the role ahead of the interview process.

And interim boss Jones says it is up to them to decide whether his performance over the last three weeks has been good enough for him to be under serious consideration.

“I can’t answer that question,” he said. “Only the people who make the decisions can answer that question.

“I think, in the second half against Swindon, people started to see where I want us to go and how I want to move forward.

“But it’s someone else’s decision, not mine.”

Jones insists he has had no problems concentrating on his role after submitting his application to become Rovers’ next boss.

He said: “I’m completely focused on what I’m doing.

“I want to be a manager. I’ve never shied away from that fact. And I’m very passionate about this football club.

“Hopefully I can marry the two together.

“Right now, my focus is on the day to day running of the football club until I’m told otherwise.

“That’s how I’ve done it since the day I took over and how I’ll do it until the day I get the phonecall to say yes or no.”
