Conor Grant has delivered a potential pick-me-up to fellow loan star Felipe Mattioni - by insisting the Brazilian is good enough to play in the Premier League.

Mattioni has returned to parent club Everton for treatment on the hamstring injury he picked up during Rovers’ recent win at Oldham Athletic.

Rovers have agreed in principle to extend the 27-year-old’s loan until the end of the season but are now waiting to learn the extent of the former Espanyol, Mallorca and AC Milan defender’s latest injury setback.

Mattioni, who suffered two cruciate knee ligament injuries during his time in Spain, had just returned to the Rovers team after a calf injury had kept him out for a month.

Now facing yet another spell on the sidelines, you would forgive Mattioni should his morale have hit rock bottom.

However, the words of his Rovers and Everton teammate Grant might just keep his chin up.

“I think he’s good enough [to play in the Premier League],” Grant said, prior to Mattioni’s latest injury.

“I’ve been very impressed with him.

“I didn’t know much about him [prior to this season].

“He had trained with us at Everton for a few weeks before we both came here and you could see he was a good player but you didn’t know how he was going to be in a game environment.

“He’s been superb. On the ball he’s different class.

“Obviously he’s got the experience and he’s been unlucky with injuries, very unlucky.

“He’s played with some top class players. I’ve seen the pictures of him with the likes of Beckham and Ronaldinho. It has been brilliant to play alongside him.”
