DONCASTER Rovers had been hoping to improve their profile in the League One play off zone this evening - yet they struggled to compete against a lively Crewe.
The Keepmoat side started off in fifth place in League One, aiming to get three points from 18th place Crewe.
But they went behind to a fourth minute goal from 21-year-old Finnish striker Lauri Dalla Valle from inside the penalty area, after decent set-up lay from midfielder Chuks Aneke.
On 26 minutes, the on-form Rob Jones was substituted, Shelton Martis coming on.
Crewe were having far too much of the play, as far as Rovers fans were concerned.
And the home fans were relieved to see Aneke’s second half shot saved by Gary Woods.
The frustration continued with the referee giving Iain Hume a yellow card for unsporting behaviour, joining James Harper, Paul Quinn and David Syers in the book.
Mathias Pogba ended the contest with headed goal from close in.
