Port Vale striker Tom Pope will hold talks with Doncaster Rovers this week, according to reports.

The 29-year-old - who has scored 61 goals in the last three seasons - is out of contract this summer.

Pope has been told he will have to take a pay cut to remain with his hometown team.

Radio Stoke report that the former Crewe and Rotherham frontman will meet Rovers boss Paul Dickov for talks this week.

“I haven’t discussed terms yet, that’s in the post but Rob Page has said he wants me to stay so the club will put something to me in writing,” Pope told the Sentinel newspaper last week.

“Hopefully something can be sorted out.

“Why would I want to leave? I live half a mile from the ground, it’s my club and there is a great group there.

“But just because I am a local lad and support the club doesn’t mean I am going to be happy to stay whatever is offered.

“I am nearly 30 and I have to do what is right for myself and my family.

“Hopefully we can meet half way or I can get an agreement with the chairman, but we will have to see what comes through the post.”

On Saturday Pope tweeted: “I think the postmen must be on strike again!!!”
