Paul Dickov has urged not to get too carried away despite back-to-back wins and announcing that stalwarts Richie Wellens and Paul Keegan were staying put.

After Doncaster’s epic 2-1 Capital One Cup victory over Championship side Watford on Tuesday night, the Scotsman revealed that the veteran duo would be sticking with Rovers.

Wellens, 34, had attracted attention from several Championship sides about a move away from the Keepmoat Stadium. However, Dickov told reporters that the former Leicester midfielder was committing his future to the club for a further two years.

The Rovers faithful have been further buoyed by yesterday’s news that fellow midfielder Keegan, 30, had officially penned a three-year contract.

The revelations cap off a fine week for the club which has included wins over Colchester United in League One and Watford in the cup.

And whilst everything seems to be pointing in the right direction just days before Dickov faces his old club in Oldham Athletic on Saturday afternoon, the Scot is making sure he continues to pull back the reins.

“We just have to be careful that we don’t get too carried away,” the Rovers chief urged.

“That’s everybody - myself included sometimes.

“I’ve got to make sure I don’t do that.

“The pleasing thing for me is that the players are actively going out onto the pitch and doing what we’re asking them to do and doing what we’re asking them to do on the training ground.

“As a manager, you can’t ask for any more.”
