Portsmouth have completed the signing of Kyle Bennett on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old winger, whose contract had expired at Doncaster, becomes Paul Cook’s first signing since he left Chesterfield to take over at the League Two outfit.

Doncaster boss Paul Dickov had been confident about keeping Bennett and said the former Bury wideman had verbally agreed to stay at Rovers.

Dickov said on Wednesday night that Bennett had been “badly advised” by his agent.

Bennett told Portsmouth’s official website: “This is a massive club with a great fan base and the manager expressed a desire to bring me here.

“I know he’s very attack-minded – which is good for players like me – so that also helped me make this decision.

“I’ve had a few other offers from the league above, but I certainly don’t see this as a backward step.

“This club are looking to go somewhere and I want to be a part of that. I know what it takes to win promotion from this division because I’ve done it before.”

Pompey are also reportedly set to make a move for former Rovers loanee Enda Stevens, whose contract at Aston Villa expires this summer and will not be renewed.
