John Ryan insists he and Louis Tomlinson are the only parties involved in the takeover of Doncaster Rovers but believes plenty will be keen to come on board due to the presence of the One Direction star.
Ryan’s strong backing for last year’s takeover attempt by hedge fund Sequentia Capital led some supporters to express concerns members of that group could still be involved.
Returning chairman Ryan dismissed such speculation but said his and Tomlinson’s ears would be open to potential investment.
“No one else is involved in this,” Ryan told the Star. “In time to come, people may get involved. We’ve got a lot of interest as you would expect.
“I’m not saying we’ll take people on or we won’t.
“As far as I’m concerned, the future is bright.”
Ryan believes Tomlinson’s presence can help turn Rovers into a brand which would help them compete with the country’s bigger clubs.
He said: “I think we’ll get a lot of sponsors on board, particularly with Louis’ name.
“We should raise a lot of money in other areas that we never have before.
“We want Rovers to be a brand. Today is all about being a brand.
“We want to be a powerful brand and those red and white hoops can be that.”
The pair are looking to use the pop star’s own global brand to power the Tomlinson Ryan Trust, a crowd funding project to boost the club’s finances.
