Rovers turned in an improved performance to battle out a 0-0 draw with SPL runners-up Motherwell.

In a game of few chances, Rovers had the edge with the new passing style coming to the fore, particularly in the second half of Paul Dickov’s Keepmoat debut.

The match saw the first appearance of Mark Duffy who signed a three year deal after the game.

But it also saw a severe injury suffered by another new signing Marc De Val Fernandez.

After a first half with little in the way of goalmouth action, both sides had chances to win it after the break.

David Syers had an effort cleared off the line while Motherwell’s Iain Vigurs drew applause from around the ground when a audacious attempt from 45 yards rattled the bar.

Bob McHugh drew a fine save from on trial keeper Marian Kello with a rasping half volley.

And Chris Brown had the best chance of the match when he powered a header from a Duffy cross on target which Lee Hollis saved well.

Rovers: Kello, Quinn (Wakefield 60), Mvoto (Finnegan 77), Jones (McCullough 77), Spurr, Coppinger (Duffy 60), Furman (Harper 60), Fernandez (Keegan 44), Cotterill (Husband 60), Bennett (Syers 46), Paynter (Brown (60).

Subs: Maxted, Middleton.
