Dean Furman and his Doncaster teammates are ready to hit the wall at Bradford Park Avenue tonight - as they set out on the road to redemption.
Rovers launch their pre-season schedule against the Conference North outfit at the Horsfall Stadium this evening (7.45pm).
And midfielder Furman admits he’s looking forward to getting a first run-out under his belt.
“I’m not sure it’s the nicest moment,” said Furman
“No matter how hard you run, that first game always hits you hard.
“But as a footballer you want to play matches. You can train all you want but there’s no feeling like a matchday.
“We’re excited for the first game and as long as there’s no injuries, going forward, it’ll stand us in good stead.
“We’ve got to make sure our preparations are right over the next four or five weeks. We’ll be ready for the challenge ahead.”
Rovers’ players reported back to Cantley Park last Monday.
And, according to Furman, the young squad that has assembled are already showing a good base level of fitness as they bid to atone for last season’s relegation from the Championship.
“Everyone wants to hit the ground running,” said the South African.
“I think everyone was keen to get back. You can see that from the fitness levels.
“We know we’ve got a big mission on our hands to get straight back up to the Championship. That’s our goal, and we want to do it at the first time of asking.
“Obviously we were all devastated at the way it ended last year but we have to learn from it and take as many positives as we can from last season.”
