Rovers have made an offer to striker Moulaye Idrissa Ba according to reports in France.
The 24-year-old is available on a free transfer this summer after helping Bourg-Peronnas win promotion to Ligue 2 in France.
And French sports newspaper L’Equipe report that Rovers have joined Scottish side Hibernian in making an offer to Ba.
Paul Dickov is known to be in the market for a goalscorer this summer and would ideally like to bring in two forwards as he looks to build a squad to fight for promotion next season.
Ba – who can also play on either wing –scored three goals in 33 appearances last season, starting 24 games.
His best season goal tally was six for Frejus Saint-Raphael in the fifth tier.
Ba is of Senegalese descent but was born in France.
Bourg-Peronnas are keen to keep the forward next season but Ba has held talks with Ligue 2 side Dijon since the end of the season.
L’Equipe claims Ba – who has never played higher than the French third tier – also received offers from Rovers and Hibernian over the last week.
Dickov has refused to be drawn on discussing individual targets other than to say he has spoken to striker Tom Pope about joining Rovers this summer.
Seven Rovers Academy players have signed two-year scholarships with the club.
Reece Fielding, Louis Jones, Tyler Walker, Will Longbottom, Lloyd Henderson, Joshua Barker and Matthew Gains all penned their first professional deals last week and will make the jump from the U16 squad to the U18s.
The group will be looking to follow in the footsteps of the 11 other players to have stepped up from the Academy to featuring in the first team squad in the last three years.
