DONCASTER Rovers’ hopes of kicking off their first League One campaign in five seasons with a home game have been dashed - they will take on Walsall at the Banks’s Stadium on August 18.

Bury, who finished 14th in League One last season, are the visitors in the club’s first home league match the following Tuesday. Former Rovers’ boss Sean O’Driscoll, who took over at the promoted League Two side last month, will bring Crawley Town to the Keepmoat Stadium, four days later.

Rovers will renew acquaintances with Yeovil Town, who were promoted as champions the same year as the South Yorkshire side won promotion from the Conference via the inaugural Promotion Play-off Final, when they make the long trip down to Huish Park on the first day of September.

That game is followed by the much shorter trip down to the M1 to face South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United, likely to be one of the title favourites. Rovers are back at the Keepmoat Stadium four days later where they entertain former Conference rivals Stevenage at Football League level for the first time.

The visit of Scunthorpe on November 24, and the home game against Sheffield United on New Year’s Day are likely to attract the biggest league attendances of the season at the Keepmoat.
