Darren Ferguson is considering his options ahead of this week’s loan deadline after striker Keshi Anderson suffered a suspected broken leg in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Rochdale.

Anderson, a second half substitute, was stretchered off with his right leg in a brace and spent Saturday night in hospital.

The 20-year-old, who had become a firm fans’ favourite since joining on loan from Crystal Palace, later tweeted: “Thanks for the messages, find out the full extent of the injury in coming days, but I’ll be back better & stronger.”

Richie Wellens, Luke McCullough, Rob Jones, Gary MacKenzie, Mitchell Lund, Paul Keegan, Richard Chaplow and Curtis Main were all absent at the weekend through either illness or injury. With Anderson facing a lengthy lay-off, Ferguson will now deliberate whether to add to his squad before the emergency loan window closes on Wednesday.

“Keshi will go back to Crystal Palace now so that leaves us with the four loan players, so possibly we can bring another one in,” said Ferguson.

“There’s clubs that bring seven or eight in, which is obviously their prerogative, but you can only play five at one time.

“I think we’re a bit light, when you think of the bodies missing. Although I think it was said last week that we had a really strong bench.

“We’ll have a look at it. A bit of thinking will be done on that one. We’ll maybe do it, we’ll maybe not. We’ll see.”

Ferguson expects Wellens to recover from the sickness bug that has recently plagued the squad in time for tomorrow’s home clash with Chesterfield.

Luke McCullough is more of a doubt after returning from international duty with a knock.
