Paul Dickov was last night waiting for calls to be returned after making enquiries about signing a defender on loan.
Bongani Khumalo’s season-ending knee injury has left Rovers a little light of senior bodies in the defensive ranks.
And Dickov insists he is keen to bring in a new face to provide cover, with versatility at the top of his wish list.
“We are looking for a centre half,” he said.
“Paul Quinn came in and did really well on Saturday.
“Quinny has shown this season that he can come in and cover so we’re possibly looking at a centre half who can cover at either full back or visa versa.
“We put in a few calls over the weekend but we wanted to get the game out of the way first.
“We put in a few calls on Monday morning and we are just waiting to hear back.
“At the minute it looks unlikely for Watford but things can happen very quickly.”
Dickov is set for more time on the phone later this week as he looks to extend Jordan Bowery’s loan deal until the end of the season.
The Aston Villa striker’s initial month ends following Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.
Dickov said: “I’ve not spoken to Paul Lambert for a few weeks but we’d like to keep him because he’s done well.
“If we can keep a front four of Brown, Sharp, Bowery and Robinson for the next 12 games it’s quite a threat for us up top. Everyone always says they’d like four strikers.
“It would be great for us to have those four until the end of the season but if not we will still have three top strikers.”
