Paul Dickov admitted to being at the end of his tether with certain players following Rovers’ sorry FA Cup exit - and has threatened to wield the axe as part of a January makeover.
A furious Dickov blasted his lacklustre side after they were deservedly beaten 3-2 by League One basement side Stevenage.
And he has threatened to show several players the door - if that is what he has to do to bring players in during the current transfer window.
“Saturday was the final straw,” said Dickov.
“I want to back the players all the time but there comes a point you make yourself look a bit stupid by doing that all the time.
“We want to try and bring players in and if that means having to get a load out we’ll do it.
“Seven of that team that played out there were involved in winning League One last year so they should’ve been more than good enough to get a result.
“Whether they thought it was Stevenage and it was going to be easier, I don’t know.
“But the one thing I’m going to have to do now is sort it out.
“If that means that I have to get players out - because there’s not one player in there [the dressing room] that can say to me they’ve not had a chance - I’ll do it.
“I don’t care if it’s one, two, five or six of them.
“If they’re going to show me that they can’t perform, not just with the ball but with the desire I want them to perform with, I’ll get them out.”
Rob Jones will have a scan today on the neck/arm injury that has kept him out since late October.
If the skipper gets the nod from medical experts he is hoping to make an immediate return to the side at Blackburn on Saturday.
