Paul Dickov was pleased with what he saw during last night’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Rovers were good value for the lead given to them by Curtis Main before Chris Burke spared the Championship side’s blushes with a sublime equaliser.

Dickov said: “It was a really good work-out, exactly what we expected against a good Championship team.

“ In the first 35 minutes I thought we were excellent in terms of our shape and some of the football we played.

“The second half was a typical pre-season game. It became a bit disjointed with all the substitutions, but it was fantastic to get the young kids on towards the end too.

“There were a lot of positives.

“There are plenty of things to work on, of course,” he added. “But from a fitness and tactical point of view it was a pleasing night.”

Richie Wellens was forced to withdraw after the warm up, while Paul Keegan, Richard Chaplow and Nathan Tyson also missed out through injury.

“There’s no point in taking risks,” said Dickov.

“Richie’s got three really good weeks of pre-season under his belt. His calf tightened up a bit and it was the same thing with Nathan Tyson.

“Chaps got a bang on the knee on Monday. If I’m being honest it didn’t look too good to start with but he’s had a scan and there’s no serious damage in there.

“With Keegs we’re managing him through pre-season. He came out to Portugal and trained, did a few sessions and tightened up a bit.

“Like the others, there’s no point taking any risks. The main thing is to get that base fitness in all of them, ready for Bury on the first day of the season.”
