Paul Dickov feels that Leeds’ Jason Pearce should have seen red for his tackle on James Coppinger.

Coppinger faces a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s visit of Bournemouth after being forced off at half time with a knee injury.

Pearce was late on Coppinger, after the whistle had gone for an earlier infringement.

But referee Scott Mathieson chose to only book the former Bournemouth and Portsmouth defender.

That decision contributed to a frustrating night with the officials for Dickov, who also argued that Matt Smith fouled Bongani Khumalo in the build-up to his crucial second half goal.

“I was disappointed with the tackle,” said Dickov.

“I don’t want to see any player sent off, whether that’s one of our own or an opposition player.

“But especially in today’s day and age, I thought he was very lucky [to stay on the pitch].

“We had to take James off and I thought it was a poor decision. There were quite a few - for both teams.

“Copps was in a bit of pain on Tuesday night. It was his knee that took the impact. We’ll assess him and see how he is for the weekend.”

Coppinger’s second half replacement Mark Duffy stands by for Saturday after impressing from the bench.

“We changed things around a little in the second half and tried to get our better footballers on the ball,” said Dickov.

“We tried to get the likes of David Cotterill and Mark Duffy involved further up the pitch and we got the goal from doing that.

“Billy [Paynter] came on and got his goal and at that point you’re thinking we’re more likely to go on and win the game.

“The second goal killed us a bit and it was a foul on Bongani [Khumalo]. Nine times out of ten they get given.

“The lads are disappointed. They believed that, at the point at which they scored their second goal, they were going to go on and win the game.

“So for the manner in which it happened, not getting a couple of decisions which we thought we should’ve had, I’m acutally quite angry about that.”
