Paul Keegan has NOT suffered a recurrence of the knee injury that kept him out at the end of last season, Paul Dickov has said.

The 31-year-old midfielder has not featured for Rovers since the win over Wolves in pre-season - leading to fears he may have suffered a setback following his cartilage operation in March.

Keegan missed the last two months of last season but Dickov says his current knee problem is unrelated.

Rovers’ boss is also fairly hopeful that the Dubliner could return to training next week, if not by the end of this week.

“He took a whack on it in training and he’s banged bone on bone,” said Dickov.

“Through wear and tear more than anything else there’s a little bit of bone bruising in there, which is the reason he’s been out.

“It’s not a recurrence of the knee or cartilage problems that he’s had.

“What we will do with all the senior lads - and not just Keegs - is we’ll look after them this year to make sure that they’re right.

“We’ll try and take the load off their bodies a little bit.”
