Rovers have denied claims made by Scunthorpe United that a bid has been accepted for winger Mark Duffy.
Iron chairman Peter Swann was quoted yesterday that his club had accepted a third bid from Rovers for the 27-year-old midfielder over the weekend.
But, in a bizarre twist, Rovers chairman John Ryan has this morning labelled talk of a deal ‘premature.’
Rovers have previously seen two bids for Duffy rebuffed by Scunthorpe but were thought to have maintained their interest in the former Morecambe man.
So there was little surprise when Swann announced on Monday that a fee had been agreed between the two clubs.
Swann also said Duffy had held initial talks with Doncaster, a club he ‘wants to join.’
But Rovers have moved to rubbish talk of both a deal with Duff and an agreement over a fee.
