Doncaster Rovers: Darren Ferguson facing several selection posers for Accrington Stanley clash

Darren Ferguson has admitted that his team selection for tomorrow's home clash with Accrington Stanley has been one of his most difficult of the season.

The Scot says he has made his mind up and will guide his chosen eleven through their final preparations at Cantley Park today.

His chief concern has been how to replace holding midfielder Jordan Houghton who had not missed a minute of the League Two season before tearing his knee ligaments in last weekend’s draw with Luton Town.

But if that wasn’t enough to ponder Ferguson must decide whether to stand by striker Andy Williams, who is without a goal in ten games, or unleash Alfie May on the back of his goalscoring home debut against the Hatters.

The Rovers boss also has influential French defender Mathieu Baudry available again but will be reluctant to drop Craig Alcock following his man of the match display last weekend.

“We went through a long spell where the team picked itself in a way,” said Ferguson yesterday.

“Certainly injuries and people coming back from injuries is giving me more of a problem to pick the right team.

“And, look, that’s a big part of my job obviously to pick the right team.

“The team will be focused on what we can do on the ball, there’s no question about that.

“The tough decisions I’ve got to make are obviously the one up front, who replaces Jordan and if Frenchy [Mathieu Baudry] comes back into the team.

“I think there’s been players in good form. Three or four of the players played very well against Luton and I have to take that into consideration.

“I’m very much one for if you’re in the team and doing your job then I don’t see a reason to take you out, unless it’s a tactical reason. So I’ve got some tricky decisions to make. I know in my own mind generally what I’m going to do.”

Joe Wright is out for 3-4 weeks after picking up a knock this week.
