Alcock suffered a serious ankle injury in last week’s clash with Newcastle United, which also saw Harry Middleton, Joey McCormick and Joe Wright taken off hurt.

And the 28-year-old defender is set to miss the next three months as Rovers’ injury crisis threatens to hit the start of the new season.

Rovers boss Darren Ferguson expects to have news on the extent of Middleton’s knee ligament injury early this week but was not confident of a positive diagnosis.

Luke McCullough will be handed his first minutes of pre-season tonight as Rovers visit York.

McCullough joined up with the Rovers squad late after his Euro 2016 duty with Northern Ireland and has yet to feature.

The 22-year-old would have played against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday but the friendly was postponed due to Rovers’ injury crisis.

And he will be a welcome returnee at Bootham Crescent tonight as Rovers’ patched up squad travel to the National League outfit.

“I’ll be involved on Tuesday night and hopefully get some minutes,” McCullough said.

“I was actually supposed to be involved on Saturday but obviously that got called off due to the injuries but I’ll be involved tomorrow night and I just want to get started now and get back on the pitch.”

Paul Keegan could also feature for the first time this summer after stepping up his return from a thigh problem.
