Billy Sharp is under strict orders to be Doncaster’s fox-in-the-box.

The on-loan Southampton star admits he modified his game to adapt to the demands of the Premier League.

But Sharp - who will today hope to repeat his historic first ever goal at the Amex Stadium - has been left in no doubt by Paul Dickov about his role at Rovers.

Sharp told The Star: “When I’m on the side of the pitch trying to get involved in the play I can hear him shouting at me ‘get in the box!’

“That’s good for me because it is where the damage is done.

“If I keep on listening to him and get into a habit of doing it, I’m sure I’ll get plenty of goals because the boys are creating plenty of chances.

“I’m at my best when I’m poaching - when I’m not really involved in the game and the next minute I’ve scored,” he added.

“I had to develop other sides of my game when I went to Southampton because you’re playing against much better teams and going into games as underdogs. I had to do other jobs for the team which took me away from goal a little.”

Sharp has one goal in three since his sensational Rovers return.

“I’m not going to set any targets,” he said.

“I’ve been out of the game for seven months so I’ll just score as many goals as I can and see where that takes me.”
