Barnsley could follow up the signing of James Bailey by raiding Doncaster Rovers again.
Richie Wellens, James Coppinger and Paul Keegan were all absent from last night’s 4-0 friendly win at Grimsby Town.
Trialists Peter Clarke and Elliott Kebbie were also not involved.
Bailey joined the Tykes on a two-year deal yesterday after spending three weeks on trial at Doncaster.
And it is understood the Oakwell club are now preparing to make a move for at least one more player with Doncaster connections.
Following last night’s comfortable victory at Blundell Park, Paul Dickov refused to discuss the situation surrounding any of the players absent from a very young teamsheet.
Wellens is under contract at Doncaster for another season but is known to have a relegation release clause in his contract.
Out of contract Coppinger recently agreed a new deal at Rovers - but that extension was subject to John Ryan and Louis Tomlinson’s takeover going through. Paul Keegan is also a free agent.
Barnsley were one of a clutch of clubs linked with Clarke earlier this summer, while Kebbie is on the hunt for a club in his native Yorkshire after leaving Atletico Madrid.
Dickov is set to continue talks with the Rovers hierarchy today regarding budget and transfer plans.
