BRIAN Flynn was not about to stand in Lee Fowler’s way when the midfielder asked to go out on loan.

Fowler has joined former club Forest Green Rovers on a month long loan deal.

And the 29-year-old played the entire second half of the Blue Square Premier side’s 2-0 defeat at Woking on Tuesday night.

Fowler has made just one start and three appearances off the bench since joining last month in Dean Saunders’ last act as Rovers boss.

With midfielders Cameron Howieson and John Lundstram both joining on loan last week, Fowler’s chances were further limited.

Flynn said: “David Hockaday at Forest Green enquired about Lee and I said he was available.

“Lee came in last month and he hasn’t got his chance with us because the team and the players in his position were doing well.

“He needs games. He wants games.

“His contract is up at the end of the season so he wants to play, which I totally understand.

“I understood his frustration. He asked if he could go out on loan and I have no problem with that.

“With us bringing in two young midfielders his chances of getting games will be limited. I’m comfortable with him going out on loan. It was an easy decision to make.

“I’m happy with what I’ve got.

“I’ve got young Cameron Howieson who’s still got to come into the picture and he can play a big part.”

Fowler previously played at Forest Green during the 2008-09 season and returned for a short spell in 2010.

Flynn was full of praise for one of the players keeping Fowler out of the side, Lundstram, who starred in the 2-1 win over Shrewsbury on Tuesday night.

The on-loan Everton midfielder dictated play from the middle of the park and produced some superb long passes to spark attacks for Rovers.

Flynn said: “His range of passing was superb and his work ethic was even better.

“He can spot that really killer pass and there was a couple of times that it almost came off for us when he sent a ball into space.

“I’m sure he’ll be getting closer attention if the opposition watch the DVD of that game in preparation.

“But he’s a very bright player so he’ll be able to deal with it.”
