DONCASTER Rovers Belles will be hoping to clinch their first FA Women’s Super League (WSL) double of the season in tonight’s home game against Lincoln City Ladies at the Keepmoat Stadium (7.45pm).
Belles go into the game on the back of three successive home defeats since the WSL resumed after the mid-season break for the Olympic Games.
The run of defeats has left Belles propping up the table but manager John Buckley remains hopeful that his side will avoid the wooden spoon: “It’s not often that you can take encouragement from a 4-0 defeat,” he said.
“But I thought the girls showed a lot of spirit in the second half of the Arsenal game on Saturday to restrict them to just one goal because they are a very good team. We also had a couple of chances ourselves.” Looking ahead to tonight’s game, Buckley said: “I’m expecting it to be a lot closer game than on Saturday.
“We’ll be looking to build on our second half performance.
“There are no easy games at this level but Lincoln won’t punish us for our mistakes like Arsenal.
