Doncaster forward Craig Robinson has been the ace in the pack for the high-flying Championship club this season.

“Week-in, week-out, Craig has probably been our most consistent performer this season,” said player coach Paul Cooke.

Cooke admitted, however, that Robinson, who can operate in both the front-row and second-row, could easily have been plying his trade this year for a rival club.

“It was a difficult decision to make because he’d not played much under Tony (Miller),” he said.

“In all honesty we were close to releasing Craig when I took over because I’d not seen him play all that much and I didn’t know where he’d fit into the team.

“But we decided to take a punt on him and offer him a new contract, not least because he’s one of those good professionals that you want at a club.

“Craig has certainly repaid my faith in him and he’s deservedly forced his way into the team on a regular basis this season.”

Having struggled with injuries for most of the 2013 campaign, Robinson got down to business within weeks of the final whistle.

“Craig had a really good off-season and started a lot earlier than anyone else,” said Cooke.

“That showed in his early-season performances and he has continued to show up well with the amount of minutes he’s played and the quality of his play since.

“Craig’s not the biggest of props, but he takes the ball up well and defends well.

“His work-rate and commitment are also very good and you certainly know what you are going to get from Craig every week.”
