Sheffield FC showed their battling qualities to come away with a point from a goalless draw at Division One South promotion hopefuls Stafford Rangers.
It saw Club extend their run to just one defeat in five and boss Jordan Broadbent said: “Overall we were very solid defensively; all the way from the back four, ‘keeper, midfield and even the front two did their bit.
“We’ve also come away from home and kept a clean sheet which is very pleasing. We went close with a couple of chances and could even have nicked it.”
It wasn’t the debut that Stocksbridge goalkeeper Peter Denton would have been hoping for with the shot-stopper beaten four times on his debut in a disappointing 4-0 defeat at Chasetown.
Denton has joined the Bracken Moor club on work experience from Rotherham United to cover for the injured Sam Andrew, who could be sidelined for up to a month with a thigh injury.
The home side took the lead in first half stoppage time through Nick Turton and it stayed that way until the last 10 minutes, when Chasetown struck three times to complete a miserable day at the office for Steels.
Frickley Athletic were beaten 2-1 at home by ten-man Workington as the visitors maintained their title push. The visitors took the lead in the second minutes as Gareth Arnison made the most of a poor clearance to put the ball into an unguarded net. Just seven minutes later Workington’s Dan Wordsworth was shown a straight red after bringing down Reece Thompson as the striker broke clear.
The visitors though added a second on 34 minutes through Gavin Skelton and although the Blues halved the deficit two minutes into the second half when Gavin Allott bundled in a John Cyrus header, Frickley couldn’t find an equaliser.
Buxton saw their play-off hopes dented after being held to a 1-1 draw at rock bottom Belper Town.
Resurgent Matlock Town continued their climb up the table with a 2-1 home win over Nantwich Town, with first-half goals from Otis Khan and Jamie McDonagh.
