Striker bid by Spireites chief

Chesterfield: Spireites news, reports and more.

Spireites boss John Sheridan is still hoping to bring a striker in ahead of tonight’s home game with Bournemouth.

The Chesterfield manager has been desperately trying to add to his firepower, with the transfer window soon to be closed, time is running out to recruit until the end of the season.

Forwards Craig Westcarr (ankle) and Dean Morgan (hamstring) have trained this week and will be available.

Out and out winger Alex Mendy (head injury) is also available but central midfielder Jimmy Juan (calf) looks set to miss out. Right back James Hurst has been back at his parent club this week having treatment on an ankle injury picked up at Colchester United last weekend. He’s been running again and Sheridan has indicated he’s likely to be fit.

Josh Thompson and Neal Trotman look likely to continue their central defensive partnership that helped garner three points last Saturday and Jack Lester will start up front, who his partner will be is what supporters want to know. Westcarr looks best placed to team up with the fans’ favourite.

Liam Ridehalgh played left midfield at Colchester and provided two assists. He could be set to return to left-back if Sheridan wants a more attacking line up with Morgan being a potential starter in the raiding role.

With just one loss in their last six games, Spireites look as though they could be turning the corner but Bournemouth are unbeaten on the road in League One since early September as they challenge for a play-off berth.

Should Chesterfield win, they will move off the bottom of the table, at least until tomorrow evening.

The reason I have an affecton in this regard is because of John Sheridan I have been a Wednesday supporter all my life and it was great when we lifted the Cup in 91 thanks to John Sheridan I only vaguely remember us winning the F A Cup in 1935 I like to see the local teams doing well In fact with the cost of players, transfers, travel, admission I sometimes wish we had a League of teams from around here, United, Wednesday, Rotherham, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Leeds, Barnsley. and possibly Hull

I am a through and through Wednesdayite but have fond memories of John Sheridan and the Wembley goal and I am amazed that no Chesterfield supporter even bothers to congratulate them on digging themselves out of the hole of relegation Perhaps that is why they are at the bottom, their fans are not all that bothered
