Spireites set JPT Final date

Chesterfield: Spireites news, reports and more.

CHESTERFIELD’S second leg of the Northern Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy has been arranged.

The Spireites now travel to Boundary Park for the televised game on Monday 30th January, kick-off 7.45pm. The first leg at the B2net will be on Tuesday.

The scheduling also means that the League One game against Bournemouth has been brought forward a day to the evening of Friday January 27.

This weekend John Sheridan’s side travel to a resurgent Leyton Orient. The Londoners failed to win in their opening 10 games in League One this season and were rooted to the foot of the table at the start of October.

However, in their next 11 games they lost just once, a single goal defeat at Hillsborough, notching up an impressive 22 points to lift them to 17th spot. Since then 2 wins and 2 defeats, including a 4-1 loss at Carlisle last time out, has seen them improve to 16th, seemingly out of danger.

Russell Slade’s men beat Charlton Athletic in their last home game and their story must surely give Spireites squad some hope. They’ve done the business as a team, rather that relying on any one individual. Diminutive midfielder Dean Cox, with just 7 goals, leads their scoring chart one above 33 year old front man Kevin Lisbie and midfielder David Moonie.

Chesterfield will be looking to break an unenviable record in the capital. Never before has any Spireites team scored a league goal at Brisbane Road. Not for 102 years, when the O’s played at Millfields Road, has a visiting goal been scored in a points bearing match, though cup goals have been scored at Saturday’s venue since then, though not since 1978 when ex-Blade Steve Cammack scored a last minute winner in a 2-1 League Cup victory.
