Spireites look to add Davis before Orient trip

Chesterfield: Spireites news, reports and more.

Spireites set off for Leyton Orient tomorrow hoping to add at least one new face to the squad.

It’s expected that Wolves central midfielder David Davis will be recruited to join James Hurst, who’s on loan from West Bromwich Albion until the end of the season. Davis will also stay at the B2net until the end of the campaign.

Davis, 20, has recently ended a successful loan spell at SPL side Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Previously he’s had loan spells with Darlington, Walsall and Shrewsbury and he’s been training with John Sheridan’s side.

An additional target is Owls defender Mark Beevers. The centre half had a spell at MK Dons earlier this term which ended last month.

The recruitment of Hurst indicates that Drew Talbot may move up from right back to a wing role, especially with Craig Westcarr being doubtful after twisting an ankle in last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat against Exeter.

Mark Randall, who’s recovering from a broken hand, could be an outside bet for a place in the squad after playing in the reserves this week alongside Jimmy Juan who could be set for a debut.

Leyton Orient will be without three influential players. Midfielder Stephen Dawson picked up an ankle injury in last week’s 4-1 loss at Carlisle United joining fellow engine-roomer Jimmy Smith on the side-lines whilst defender Ben Chorley is suspended.

Chesterfield, 21 games without keeping a clean sheet and 15 league games without a win, desperately need to turn their season around but will have to improve significantly and quickly to achieve that.

For a team that’s never scored a league goal at Brisbane Road, a win will be a big ask.
