Spireites Lose: Wycombe 2 Chesterfield 1

Liam Cooper: Permanent deal

Liam Cooper: Permanent deal

CHESTERFIELD took the lead through Jay O’Shea but then lost out as home side Wycombe hit back.

See The Star on Monday, for full report, reaction and more.

Despite the defeat fans were boosted in the last 24 hours with the news that iconic three times Player of the Year Tommy Lee has pledged his future at the club until the summer of 2016.

On top of keeping their keeper, loan defender Liam Cooper, who has been a revelation since joining from Hull City in November, has penned a permanent deal, keeping him at the Proact for the next two and a half years.

Chief executive Chris Turner said: “It is a tremendous signing for us because Liam has the potential to play at the highest level. We are delighted that he has chosen Chesterfield in preference to other options.”

It’s believed that Port Vale and Peterborough had both made substantial bids for the 21-year-old.

Randall was booked for a foul on Scowen after a promising Spireites move had broken down and Lewis followed him in after a challenge on Boa Morte as the two defences remained on top.

O’Shea fed Richards and his angled shot drew out the game’s first real save, Archer parrying the ball away. Talbot’s cross was headed away for a corner and from the second phase, Boa Morte slipped the ball to O’SHEA who beat his man and hammered home a rising shot from an angled 10 yard position with 29 minutes played.

Morgan won a corner after everyone seemed to stop as the fourth official signalled one more minute and the ball fell into a melee and somehow was forced over the line with HAUSE taking the plaudits for the last touch, but in truth it was impossible to gauge who’d got the final foot in, such was the size of the scrimmage.

Everyone seemed to agree that Spireites had been, by far, the better side before the interval and they immediately won a corner from the restart and Boa Morte’s corner was backheeled by Cooper, it bounced for Richards whose header hit the bar.

Morgan’s free-kick hit Spireites’ wall, the ball then fell for KUFFOUR to skilfully convert his first goal of the season on 55 minutes to turn the game on its head.
