Spireites are snubbed by Montrose
Midfielder Lewis Montrose, who was set to join Spireites from Wigan Athletic when his contract ends next week, has reneged on his pre-contract agreement and joined Peter Taylor's Wycombe Wanderers.
The 20 year old made a dozen appearances for Chesterfield in a loan spell last season and looked the part but the engagement of a new agent appears to have led to a change of heart for the Mancunian playmaker. Previously he'd had loan spells at Rochdale and Cheltenham Town.
Manager John Sheridan said; "Although I'm disappointed with Lewis's decision, I only want players who want to give 100% to Chesterfield.
"Clearly that's not the case so I'm not losing sleep over it. We'll quickly move on."
Another man who spent time on loan last season, full-back Jared Wilson, has signed a new one-year deal at parent club Birmingham City.
He's hoping to break into City's first team squad.
